About this Partnership

As part of the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Early Literacy initiative in support of SB127, literacy leaders in all LEAs have access to a personal professional learning consultant from USBE partner, EdConnective to help advance K-3 LEA-specific Science of Reading goals.

By taking advantage of this opportunity, you can expect to be matched with an expert professional learning consultant who will meet with you 1:1 to personally support you in your ongoing Science of Reading implementation. Support includes:

  • Specific feedback, tools, and resources tailored to your unique scenario related to literacy improvement and Science of Reading implementation

  • Exploring challenges you are facing within your LEA, big or small, and providing insights as you execute Science of Reading initiatives

  • Serving as a thought partner to help you accelerate your literacy goals for your LEA

How does a Coaching Cycle Work?

  1. Participants attend a brief virtual kickoff session to set the stage for a successful partnership (participants may choose whether to attend synchronously or asynchronously)

  2. Participants are matched with an EdConnective expert consultant using 15+ factors

  3. Introduction meeting where participant and coach collaborate to set goals for the partnership

  4. Participant provides an artifact: e.g. A journal entry, a recording of themselves delivering professional development, or some other piece such as a strategic plan, a data set, or perhaps an agreed deliverable from a previous meeting

  5. EdConnective consultant reviews the artifact

  6. Feedback session surrounding the shared artifact

  7. Steps 4-6 are repeated throughout the 90-day coaching cycle.

Here’s what participants say

“[My consultant] was so amazing helping me step into my new role as our school's literacy director.”

“You've helped me generate a great idea to create a workshop for coaches at the start of the year to map out how they will spend their time each week (identifying the teachers they will coach and creating a schedule). This intentionality will really help us reach a shift from having reading specialists to instructional coaches this year”

“You helped me clarify my vision and how it might be implemented in our district.”

“Getting "training" for my new job as a literacy director. I couldn't have had the many positive experiences I have without [my consultant’s] guidance. She helped me go through the process to adopt a new curriculum that aligned with the SOR and helped me role-play as I met with our different stakeholders”
